Journal & Insights

Reflections on healing, functional medicine, rooted wellness, personal growth, and living in alignment.

Halfway through the year is a natural time to pause.

Many of us review our finances.

We evaluate our goals.

We think about our careers, our businesses, or our physical health.

But how often do we stop long enough to ask a different question?

How is my soul doing?

How is my heart doing?

What’s been quietly draining me?

This isn’t another article about doing more.

It’s an invitation to slow down, notice, and create space for honest reflection.

Depletion Isn’t Always Dramatic

When we think about burnout or exhaustion, we often imagine major life events.

Loss.

Illness.

Moving.

Financial hardship.

Those experiences certainly require energy.

But many of the things that drain us aren’t dramatic at all.

They’re subtle.

The constant interruptions.

The endless mental load.

Decision fatigue.

Replaying conversations in our minds.

Saying yes automatically.

Ignoring our own needs.

Over time, these small patterns quietly accumulate.

Tiny leaks eventually empty a bucket.

The same is true for our lives.

Your Body Has Been Trying to Tell You Something

One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned through years of practicing functional medicine is this:

The body always tells the truth.

Sometimes before we consciously recognize what’s happening.

Ask yourself:

  • Am I waking up tired every morning?
  • Do I constantly feel rushed?
  • Is my nervous system always “on”?
  • Have I forgotten what deep rest actually feels like?

Our bodies aren’t betraying us.

They’re communicating with us.

Depletion isn’t weakness.

It’s information.

The invitation isn’t to ignore those signals.

It’s to become curious about what they may be trying to tell us.

Rest Is Part of God’s Design

Many of us treat rest as a reward.

We tell ourselves:

“I’ll rest when everything is finished.”

“I’ll rest when everyone else is okay.”

“I’ll rest when my work is done.”

But those moments rarely come.

Rest was never intended to be earned.

It was woven into creation itself.

God worked.

Then He rested.

Not because He was exhausted.

But because rhythm is part of His design.

Healthy leadership.

Healthy caregiving.

Healthy living.

They all require replenishment.

Without it, we eventually have nothing left to pour into others.

Sometimes Growth Comes Through Subtraction

As high-capacity women, our instinct is often to solve problems by adding something new.

A new planner.

A new routine.

A new habit.

Another goal.

But what if the most important change isn’t something you need to add?

What if it’s something you need to release?

Sometimes growth isn’t found in addition.

Sometimes it’s found in subtraction.

Creating margin isn’t laziness.

It’s wisdom.

When we create space, we create room for healing, clarity, and peace.

Questions for Your Mid-Year Reflection

Take a few quiet moments this week and reflect on these questions:

  • What has been consistently draining my energy?
  • What leaves me feeling most alive?
  • Where do I feel obligated instead of called?
  • Which relationships replenish me?
  • Which ones consistently deplete me?
  • What has my body been trying to tell me?
  • Where have I ignored my own limits?
  • If I could release one unnecessary burden this month, what would it be?
  • What would living with more margin actually look like?

Don’t rush these questions.

Sit with them.

Journal about them.

Pray through them.

Allow yourself to simply notice.

Continue the Journey

This month has been about awareness.

Not fixing.

Not striving.

Not becoming someone new.

Simply learning to see more clearly.

Next month, we’ll begin the next stage of the journey.

We’ll move from awareness into realignment—learning how to come back into agreement with the woman you already know yourself to be.

Until then, be gentle with yourself.

Create a little more margin.

Listen to what your life has been trying to tell you.

Because sometimes the smallest adjustments create the deepest transformation.
